VC Rocks: Spotting Punch Art Wildflowers (and blog candy)

Welcome to the InkPaperStamps stop on the VC Rocks Color My World Blog Hop!   If you’re hopping in order, you’ve just been admiring Stacey’s creations at Stampin’ Stace.  I just love the whimsy of her Flower Fest card!

Here at InkPaperStamps, we’ve brought out our ink spots and sponge daubers to add color to our corner of the stampin’ universe.  (To add to the fun, we’re also offering some blog candy!)

WILDFLOWER IN PUNCH ART:

Gaillardia/Indian Blanket

One of the best times of the year in Texas is wildflower season.  (What, you thought we were going to say fry-an-egg-on-the-sidewalk month, aka August?)

Of course, our state flower, the Bluebonnet, is a sentimental favorite.  And in my eyes, Gaillardia–or Indian Blanket–is a very close second.

Others must agree, because the wild, prolific and above all heat-tolerant Gaillardia occasionally pops up even in suburban landscapes.  Driving home from my parents’ house earlier this week, I spied one back yard that is completely (!) blanketed with these vibrant blossoms.  That’s the inspiration for my creation for today.

Gaillardia or Indian Blanket, an eye-catching harbinger of summer.

Also known as Indian Blanket, my blossom is set off by a spotted backround in hues of Certainly Celery and Old Olive, with just a few dabs of Wild Wasabi.

By using Daffodil Delight, Riding Hood Red and Cherry Cobbler, I was thrilled that my punch art bloom rather captures the tones of this lovely flower.  Can you see that the color was sponged over glossy cardstock lightly dabbed with shimmer paint?  (Click on the image for a close up of the subtle texture.)

A couple of unrealistic aspects of my punch art homage:  Indian Blanket does not grow upright on a single stem like a long-stem rose; it branches out at an angle with many blossoms per branch.  Thus, you never see a lone blossom in a field–it’s always a profusion! (Oh, and it has a yellow center.  Not rhinestone.)

But hey, this is punch art.  Just imagine we’ve zoomed in to study the form of this fine specimen.

Did I mention that Gaillardia is a favorite of mine?

A tutorial for the punch art Indian Blanket blossom is in the works.  If you’d like to be among the first to see it, kindly subscribe to InkPaperStamps’ free updates.
