Petal Cone Die: Ideas for Easter, Graduation and a Birthday (plus blog candy!)

Welcome to Stop #6 on the Stampin Addicts 2011 Occasions Mini Blog Hop

If you’re hopping in order, you’ve just been admiring Rhonda’s creations at The Stampin’ Bunny.  I just love her style and creativity. . . .

Here at InkPaperStamps, we’re playing with the new Sizzix Petal Cone die, a Stampin’ Up! exclusive.  (To add to the fun, we’re also offering some blog candy!)

A surprise for somebunny special. . . .

A Favor for Any Occasion: Just Add Your Special Touch

The Petal Cone die makes it easy to create boxes–for a pair of scored die cuts, just run it through your Big Shot twice.

The mini features lovely open boxes, perfect for petals, candies or small favors.

To maintain an air of mystery, however, you can close the petal tabs.  Then, you’re only limited by your imagination in what type of box you can create.

Here, the petal die masquerades as a carrot, fresh from the garden.

So on what occasions, pray tell, can you use a carrot favor box?  How about:

  • Easter
  • Chinese New Year (be careful, though; if you miss the Year of the Rabbit in 2011, your next chance won’t be ’til 2023)
  • a little thank you for the green thumb neighbor who shares their bounty
  • your vegetarian cousin’s birthday
  • a Peter Rabbit baby shower
  • a ‘big kids eat their veggies’ incentive for a special (and picky) toddler in your life
  • a little something for your eye doctor. . . .

An all-in-one card and gift box for the new grad.

For the Grad:  A Card and a Gift Box

And don’t limit yourself to only pyramid or cone creations with this die.

A simple slice or two from your trusty paper trimmer and you can vary the shape of your Petal Cone box.

Case in point:  my double duty graduation cap ensemble.

Embellished with a punch art tassel/clasp, the mortarboard is a card to convey your best wishes to the grad.

Underneath, they’ll find a Petal Cone box that conveys your gift.

(And for anyone wondering ‘Now how am I supposed to get a car into that?’, just drop in the key–if they’re smart enough to have graduated, they’ll figure it out.)

Nothing says 'happy birthday' like ice cream.I Scream, You Scream:  The Petal Cone Makes Ice Cream!

But wait, there’s more to the Petal Cone die!  This baby also opens the door for a number of cool shaped cards.

The first idea that came to my mind was this luscious strawberry ice cream cone card–can’t you almost taste its creamy goodness?

I have to say, the ice cream cone card turned out even better than I imagined.

And we even got it photographed before The Dog tried to eat it!

(For those of you who missed my stop on last winter’s Occasion Mini blog hop, well, let’s just say there were some tears and an ode to a departed cardstock dreidel.)

Since these projects are a bit ‘out of the box’, tutorials for each of these projects are in the works.  If you’d like to be among the first to see them, kindly subscribe to InkPaperStamps’ free updates.

Wow Holly. Fabulous ideas for this very cool die. You totally stole my ice cream cone idea…lol! I bet that one comes up a lot this year! Never saw the grad cap coming though..that is totally brilliant! Cute idea about the key too. Love your blog writing style..always good for thoughts and grins and of course inspiration.
